13.02.2017, Baku - Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze is on his official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan where he met President Ilham Aliyev. The sides spoke about the good-neighbourly and strategic relations between Georgia and Azerbaijan providing solid basis for the further development of co-operation. 

Discussions during the meeting focused on important issues relating to bilateral relations and regional co-operation. The sides highlighted the country’s great potential for the development of political as well as trade-economic relations. Special note was taken of the importance of transport and energy projects between Georgia and Azerbaijan. The sides agreed to continue close cooperation for the implementation of the South Energy Corridor and Baku-Tbilisi-Karsi Railway projects. The sides also spoke about co-operation within the framework of the European Union’s Eastern Partnership Initiative.  The Georgian Foreign Minister welcomed the launching of works over the EU-Azerbaijan strategic document. The sides expressed the readiness to continue the high-level dialogue and make a contribution towards further deepening the bilateral relations.

Publication date: 2016-09-01 Official visit of the Prime Minister of Georgia to Azerbaijan

Main topics discussed during the face-to-face meeting of the Prime Ministers of Georgia and Azerbaijan necompassed strategic partnership of Georgia and Azerbaijan, joint projects as well as regional development. Giorgi Kvirikashvili and Artur Rasizade outlined the positive dynamics that is observable in the bilateral relations in terms of cooperation in political, economic and humanitarian areas. Particular attention was paid to large-scale transportation and energy projects of regional importance that are being implemented by Georgia and Azerbaijan jointly. In this regard, specific emphasis was placed on Southern gas Corridor and Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway projects, succesful implementation of which is importance in terms of reinforcement of European energy security and unimpeded functioning of transport corridor linking Europe and Asia. We have joint transportation and energy projects that are developing successfully and bring benefits to our nations and people - President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev addressed Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili while hosting him at the Zagulba Palace.
