Main topics discussed during the face-to-face meeting of the Prime Ministers of Georgia and Azerbaijan necompassed strategic partnership of Georgia and Azerbaijan, joint projects as well as regional development. Giorgi Kvirikashvili and Artur Rasizade outlined the positive dynamics that is observable in the bilateral relations in terms of cooperation in political, economic and humanitarian areas. Particular attention was paid to large-scale transportation and energy projects of regional importance that are being implemented by Georgia and Azerbaijan jointly. In this regard, specific emphasis was placed on Southern gas Corridor and Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway projects, succesful implementation of which is importance in terms of reinforcement of European energy security and unimpeded functioning of transport corridor linking Europe and Asia. Tbilisi, 29 August 2016 – Issues relating to strategic partnership between Georgia and Azerbaijan were discussed during a meeting between Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze and his Azerbaijani counterpart, foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov held as part of the latter’s official meeting to Georgia. The two ministers spoke about the traditionally successful co-operation in the trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian areas. Special note was taken of the importance of co-operation between Georgia and Azerbaijan in implementing the global transport and energy projects. In this context, the Ministers stressed the particular importance of the Southern Gas Corridor and the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line, which are essential to strengthening Europe’s energy security on the one hand, and to ensuring the smooth functioning of the Europe-Asia transport corridor, on the other.
